Will this unexpected Italian Christmas CVI be a rogue comet, or will it become another regular meeting in Portogruaro? Hard to tell, certainly though November isn’t the best for competition, at least weatherwise, since temperatures may also be very rigid.

Anyways, it is impossible to deny that this CVI is success, however small in terms of number of participants with the respect to other CVIs, since there were just a handful of international competitions this year. The OC believed in the event until the end, despite the odds. A little CVI, but perfectly organized, starting with the jury. The atmosphere was beautiful and warm, with Christmas trees to the side of the competition ring. “Energy and enthusiasm” seems to be the motto, which is exactly what we need.

Back to the competition, there weren’t many participants, but it was an actual international competition, since there were foreign guests, come coming from countries far away, like the United States of America and Uruguay. The goal of this unusual CVI was to give the chance to gain the scores to move up in the class or to take the first qualification for the 2022 World Championships, and certainly many of the vaulters involved achieved their goal. Mission accomplished, then.

There wasn’t any squad, but the audience could enjoy the pas de deux. Very nice and enjoyable, as well as well performed, was the pas de deux formed by Anna Hladik and Hubertus Witzmann from Austria (S. Holzmann, Legolas 204). Vaulting to the tune of “Baywatch”, they managed to interpret the music and enjoy the audience, also performing some interesting original moves, although not particularly high in height.  Also the Italian pair composed by Rebecca Greggio and Davide Zanella (C. Petersohn, Orlando Tancredi) performed a positive performance.  Their second freestyle was convincing, but the routine still needs to be refined in the details and improved in the smoothness of some transitions.

CVI Portogruaro officially ends the 2021 competitive season, we will be back again, here in Portogruaro, in spring, for the annual Ester CVI. From Christmas to Easter builds a bridge that we sincerely hope to be crossed easily, without any hitches. This is our wish. See you all soon, to celebrate the beauty of this sport that we missed so much!
